Young Leader Spotlight: Phrancis Ogonji

In Luanda South Ward and beyond, one name continues to stand out among youth-driven transformation- FRANCIS OGONJI, the Chairperson; YOUNGESTARS S.H.G. His leadership is not defined by titles, but by action, belief, and a relentless drive to empower others.

Francis leads with a powerful mantra:

"Just because you don't know how it's done doesn't mean it can't be done."

This belief has shaped his journey and inspired many young people to break limits, challenge uncertainty, and pursue opportunities with courage. To him, possibility is not reserved for the privileged—it belongs to everyone willing to try.

At the core of Francis’s leadership philosophy is a deep commitment to Human Resource Empowerment. He strongly believes that if young people are empowered to become productive, they hold the key to solving the country’s biggest challenges. Rather than waiting for large-scale structural change, Francis focuses on transforming individuals—because, in his words, changing one person's life can impact an entire generation.

Through Youngstars SHG, Francis has turned this vision into reality. The group is actively involved in agricultural activities such as goat keeping, cattle rearing, poultry farming, and the cultivation of African leafy vegetables. These activities are not just about food production—they are pathways to financial independence and sustainable livelihoods for young people.

Beyond agriculture, Francis and his team are intentional about economic empowerment. The group supports youth in starting small businesses, offering both guidance and practical support, including the acquisition of essential assets that enable members to run and grow their enterprises.

Recognizing the power of creativity and talent, Francis also oversees Youngsters Sounds Entertainment—a vibrant platform that identifies and nurtures young talents in areas such as MCing, deejaying, and sound engineering. The initiative also provides professional services including public address systems and wiring, creating both income opportunities and a space for artistic expression.

What makes Francis’s leadership truly impactful is his inclusivity. While based in Luanda South Ward, Youngstars SHG brings together members from across Vihiga County, building a network of empowered, self-driven youth united by a shared vision of growth and resilience.

Francis Ogonji represents a new wave of leadership—one that is bold, people-centered, and rooted in action. His work is a reminder that real change does not always begin in boardrooms or policies, it begins with individuals who dare to believe, act, and uplift others along the way.
