Understanding Sports4Ezava: A Gateway to Climate Action Education Through Sports

What is with Sports4Ezava one may ask? What are our lean goals? What are the shortterm objectives? Then what happens for the future and in the long-term?

This blog is all about Sports4Ezava, a transformative initiative gradually taking root, promising not only to nurture young talents but also to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards our planet. Forezava Farm proudly     Sports4Ezava project – an innovative toolkit for community climate action that harnesses the power of sports to instigate positive change.

At its core, Sports4Ezava is more than just a sports program; it's a holistic approach to community development. The project envisions a collaborative journey, intertwining local school sports teams, passionate coaches, and enthusiastic youth, all working towards a common goal – combating climate change.

The first pillar of the initiative revolves around capacity development for coaches. Recognizing the pivotal role coaches play in shaping young minds, Sports4Ezava is set to train 50 aspiring coaches in the fundamentals of sports coaching. These coaches will not only refine their skills but will also become ambassadors for climate action, passing on the ethos of sustainability to the next generation of athletes.

But the impact doesn't stop at coaching basics. Sports4Ezava goes a step further by providing essential equipment and related training, ensuring that every coach is well-equipped to guide their teams. This infusion of resources not only elevates the quality of sports training but also promotes an environment where young talents can flourish.

The second pillar is the Sports4Climate Scholarship, a beacon of opportunity for 30 deserving learners. These young individuals, identified for their passion for sports and commitment to climate action, will receive direct support from the initiative. The scholarship not only serves as a catalyst for individual growth but also symbolizes a commitment to harnessing the potential of sports for a greater cause.

The ripple effect extends beyond the direct beneficiaries, reaching a thousand learners indirectly. Through strategic integration of the Sports4Climate agenda into training and sports learning content, the initiative aims to cultivate a broader awareness and understanding of climate issues among the youth. By embedding eco-conscious principles into the very fabric of sports education, Sports4Ezava aims to shape environmentally responsible citizens who view sustainability as an inherent part of their athletic journey.

Forezava Farm's #Sports4Climate agenda is not merely a slogan; it's a call to action. It envisions a community where sports and climate advocacy walk hand in hand, inspiring future leaders who recognize the interconnectedness of personal achievements and global well-being. The community is not just witnessing a sports initiative; it's embracing a movement that transcends the boundaries of traditional athletics, creating a legacy of environmental stewardship.

In essence, Sports4Ezava is not just about winning games; it's about winning the future. As the youth take the field, they're not just scoring goals; they're scoring a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow. Let us stand united, play with purpose, and pave the way for a community where sports and climate action coalesce for a better world.

When Good Intentions Fall Short: Reflections on Climate Resilience Projects in Vihiga

This week has been a whirlwind in Vihiga County. The Governor has been on the move, launching project after project—each meant to signal progress, resilience, and commitment to improving the lives of residents. On the surface, it feels like the county is on a steady path toward climate resilience and development. Bridges, irrigation schemes, and water projects are being unveiled with great promise. Take the Mutave–Jepses bridge in Hamisi, for instance. For years, residents have endured untold suffering trying to cross this dangerous spot that links Tambua Ward to Kisumu and Nandi Counties. Many lives have been lost there. Redeveloping it is a commendable step forward, yet questions linger. The cost—12 million shillings—has sparked debate, especially given that the structure resembles more of a box-culvert than a durable bridge with strong guard rails. Was it truly value for money, or another example of cutting corners where safety should be paramount? Credits: County Government of Vih...

No Opportunities? Or just lazy, entitled Youth...

Yesterday, I rode a bicycle for over 25 kilometers . Not on some fancy cycling trail or in a city marathon, but through the rugged countryside, under a sky that seemed determined to drown me. The heavens opened wide, the rain poured, and within minutes, I was soaked to the bone. Mud splashed with every turn of the wheel, my legs burned, and every car that passed left me looking more like a stray dog than a man with purpose. Why endure all this? Because I was headed to meet a group of talented young people —people I have worked with for months, helping them shape ideas around technology and the lot into real enterprises. It was their meeting. They set it up. They picked the time. They picked the place. I showed up, dripping wet, hungry, exhausted… and alone (mostly). No calls. No messages. No apologies. Just silence. And yet, when the dust—or rather mud—settles, these are the same young people who will look at society and claim, “There are no opportunities for us.” The Myth of Limit...

So What Next, They Ask? Empowering the Kenyan Youth: The Path Forward After the Gen Z Revolutio n

The dust is slowly settling. After weeks of an unforeseen protests, which will go down in Kenya's history, we can all agree that things will never be the same again. Revolutions have occurred in this country, but none reached the level that Gen Z has driven us to. Or is it just momentary excitement? As active participants in this particular revolution, young people are being asked: what’s next? While the question sounds honest and well-intentioned, it echoes old narratives. Who will you crown to represent you in the upcoming cabinet nominations? Who will be your voice of reason within the corridors of power? What will you intentionally bring as suggestions, only to be heard and ignored in the dialogue forums? While this uproar has shaken power to its core, those who wield it are exploring all possibilities to retain it. They will lure the most vicious protesters into unsaid traps. They will create spaces for the most popular on digital platforms. Slowly but surely, they will brand ...
