Reflections: So what is Sustainable Climate Financing and What is it not?
So here is the thing, we are in the midst of a Climate Crisis, You all know that right? And not because this generation deserves to be the one carrying the burden of our time. But we are not complaining, we do not wish to since each generation has had specific role in the preservation of humanity over the centuries. But now let's talk about SUSTAINABLE CLIMATE FINANCING!
Sustainable Climate Financing is more than funds—it's a comprehensive strategy. Governments and other stakeholders like banks must recognize its essence: an intergenerational commitment. It's not just an immediate financial fix; it's about nurturing a mindset of stewardship and equity.
This approach involves transferring financial and non-financial resources across generations. Why does this matter? It ensures lasting impact by maintaining funding for climate resilience, fostering innovation, and integrating diverse perspectives into environmental solutions.
By investing in knowledge transfer and mentorship, we empower future leaders to address evolving climate challenges. We all hold a responsibility not just to allocate funds but to cultivate an environment that promotes resource and idea sharing.
So picture this, as part of our work at Forezava Farm this year we set out to mobilize 1000 youth within Vihiga County to take part in Climate Smart Agriculture. This was a consented effort at building the bridge for action across generations. Yes, the bias of young people accessing important assets for farming like land is actually a limitation. But we set out either way.
First forward we are implementing a few great initiatives through collaborative effort within the local community. We are working with an art group to develop at least three public murals at strategic locations to communicate our theme. Another group is developing a themed cultural dance, narration and folklore tale while we keep pushing the button on the digital content like this post right here. Plus others you will see come your way.
A multifaceted approach that creates attention for the work youth are willing and able to do. This allows them to step back and reflect, why then should I not plant that tree? Why should I not set up that model farm? And by the way what is the problem with responsible consumption, reuse, recycle and repurpose?
Questions that might not be asked if not for the considerably generous support of organizations such as YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa , Kenyatta University , USAID and the UNDP. All we hope for is a turn around in the fates for both communities and people. See you around!
